... Akaname / Lesbian's Fungal Abyss : split EP

Having been around since 2007 or so, New Zealand's AKANAME add background keyboards to the slow beginning of "Rain Will Be The New Gold" before they induldge in frantic stop-and-go riffing which bears the handwriting of US Death Metal, yet is emblematic for technical instrumental groups like Dysrhythmia. Although the composition has a nice flow and conveys a dramatic atmosphere right until the end, it loses the battle against "Humongous Fungus", the drifting soundscape of their partners in crime LESBIAN's FUNGAL ABYSS. This track has a brooding ambience and makes you imagine a slow canoe ride across a jungle river in tropical moisture and heat. Hushed melodic driftwood keeps floating nearby, and the group's understanding of dynamic is remarkable. Time to invest into their tape "Bardo Abgrund Temple", it seems.

  1. all atmospherics are, and always have and always will be made by guitars and the army of pedals we use. NO synths were used on this recording my friend... it's all reverb and delay on that intro's background. peace, ben
